Tadateru Konoe

President, Japanese Red Cross Society
This year marks 150 years since Henri Dunant witnessed the Battle of Solferino in Italy, inspiring him to establish the Red Cross. The organization's mission is to help those who are suffering by translating feelings common to all human beings into specific actions. Dr. Junod, who went to Hiroshima immediately after the atomic bombing as head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Japan, embodied this spirit.

The production this year of an animated film version of the life of Dr. Junod by the NPO MOCT is truly significant, and I hope the film will inspire many people and lead to new efforts that will save the lives of many others.

Yoshinobu Nagamine

Head of ICRC Tokyo
In this year, 2009, the ICRC celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of the idea that led to the creation of the Red Cross. In this commemorative year, the Tokyo office was established in Japan for the first time in 60 years. Dr. Junod was assigned to the ICRC delegation in Japan at the end of World War II. I hope the film "Junod" shows you how powerful human beings can be to assist those who have been suffering and deprived of their freedom, as Dr. Junod witnessed throughout his career with the ICRC.

Paul Fivat

Ambassador of Switzerland
Marcel Junod was a Swiss medical doctor and one of the most accomplished delegates in the history of the International Committee of the Red Cross. In the aftermath of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, he organized the transport of 15 tons of medical equipment and devoted himself personally to the medical care of the victims. The "Junod" Animation Production Committee LLP has initiated the production of this film with the aim of raising the public's awareness of Junod's life and the ideals that motivated him. The Embassy of Switzerland is convinced that this film will contribute to deepening the ties between Switzerland and Japan.
